What Are The Signs of Ovulation?

Nature has mandated that every woman will be at her fertile best during the days around the ovulation. Though there are several days on which a woman is fertile, she is at her peak only during the days of active ovulation. However, there is a practical problem of detecting and identifying those days which are perceived to be the days of ovulation. If you do not know the days when you’re ovulating, it becomes very difficult for you to conceive and get pregnant. As a result you must learn how to read the signs of ovulation and also to know the dates on which you ovulate in a given month.

There are several signs of ovulation and you can use some of these methods to know those signs as well.

Here are some of the most commonly used methods that tell you about ovulation:

• The simplest and the most natural method that can be used to check the sign of ovulation is counting days, though this method is not really reliable. Under normal conditions, the first day of your period is exactly 14 days after ovulation. This is often more common and consistent among all women. However, to find out the days preceding the actual date of ovulation is actually difficult and inconsistent among women. The exact number of days from the start of the period and the ovulation varies from woman to woman and is more inconsistent. This works out best, if you have a regular period which is consistent for the past few years.

E.g.: In case of a perfectly arriving 30 days period cycle:
The day of ovulation is: 30-14= day 16. Day 1= the first day of next period.

You can record the first day of your period for 5 consecutive monthly cycles. From this base information, you can get a fair idea of the week when you will be ovulating during the next month. If you want to get pregnant, you can have sex every alternative day, for about 14 days after the first day of your period.

• Another fairly well-known method is charting basal body temperature. Basal body temperature is a sequence of temperature that occurs in the woman’s body throughout the monthly cycle. However, it may not predict the exact date of ovulation. Yet, examining a few months of records will suggest a fair idea to know the most probable date of ovulation.

To know your basal body temperature, you can create a chart of daily readings. This will provide a good visual indicator for you to detect any sudden changes. Make sure that the first day of your menstruation is the first day in the chart. You must measure your body temperature once you wake up in the morning before going to the bathroom. You can use a digital thermometer to know your temperature readings. You may also like to note down the dietary profile for the given month. It is assumed that the basal body temperature rises slowly, but gradually soon after ovulation. The rise could be as low as 0.2 degrees Celsius. The post ovulation body temperature may see a sudden spurt of 0.3 degrees Celsius. However, the basal temperature may rise and fall with the given environmental variables. This method is considered one of the simplest methods to know the date of ovulation.

Another method that is used universally all over the world is monitoring the cervical mucus in your body. It is based on the fact that women will secrete some sort of liquid like mucous during ovulation and pregnancy. The main point of this test is to check the consistency of the fluid by stretching the mass between her fingers. The result will provide you the following analyses and deductions:

Before Ovulation: During this stage there will be not visible discharge from your body. At this time there will not be any chances of conception.

As you approach ovulation: The discharge should be a little bit white or cream in color. In the test, it should break very easily and, it must stretch one cm across before breaking. As you approach ovulation date the secretion will increase in its volume.

Just during Ovulation: At this stage, the consistency of mucous is like that of egg white. It is not only thinner, but also clear and copious in volume. The volume of mucous keeps increasing till the day when the probability of conception is very high. At this juncture, the chance of a sperm fertilizing the egg is very high.

Right after Ovulation: After ovulation, the mucous its appearance drastically and returns back to its sticky stages. The dryness stage also returns back with a renewed vigor.

All the above signs may help you to identify the days on which the ovulation is most likely to occur. It may take a little bit of practice to know the date on which you are approaching your ovulation.
